I realize that we are several months from December, however the thoughts below came quickly to mind as I pondered Matthew 2:13-20.
Evil men have sought to destroy Jesus Christ and silence the declaration of the Gospel since the announcement of His birth. Matthew 2:13, “…the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”
God, however, has providentially protected Jesus Christ and preserved His Word since the news of Christ’s birth. Matthew 2:13b-15, “…Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod…”
The Lord’s church including the power of the Gospel will outlive its enemies (Mt 2:19-21), and be proclaimed “unto the ends of the earth” until the return of Jesus Christ. Matthew 2:19-21, “But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life. And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.” (Acts 13:47; Mt 28:19-20)
The enemies of Jesus Christ will be judged by the very words they sought to silence. John 12:47-48, “And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”
