Proverbs 17:17, “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” At all times includes seasons of adversity, during which time, according to some, a true friend is closer than a brother. (Pr 18:24) Fair-weather friends come and go, but, true friends are discovered in times of need.
Jonathan was a true friend to David. Though his father, king Saul, sought to slay David, Jonathan stood with his friend during the most difficult days of his life. 1Sa 23:16, “And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.”
